We are working on developing the the first hydrogel-based dressing that detects bacterial infections using a colorimetric method and applies therapeutic agents in response to infections topically.
Advantages over existing dressings:
- Our bandage maps the pH of the wound using an array of printed sensors, which provides more detailed information about the bacterial biogeography in large injuries; thus enables localizing the treatment to the infection site.
- The dressing is changed only when needed. This reduces the number of dressing changes significantly, which in turn, reduces the cost and patient discomfort.
- It allows monitoring wound conditions by patients at home using a user-friendly mobile application that records the data and relays the information to the medical team using Cloud technology.
- It promotes wound healing.
